Lord Mayor’s Welcome for International Students Goes Virtual!

This article is sponsored by City of Sydney

The City of Sydney hosts an official welcome for international students in Sydney every year – maybe you’ve even attended one?

Well, this year, it has all changed! In 2021, the Lord Mayor’s welcome will be held virtually on HOPIN, making it accessible for people across the globe studying at New South Wales institutions.

Although the Lord Mayor’s welcome is usually reserved for recent arrivals, the 2021 event is open to all international students to mark the start of your journey and of making life-long connections.

Local community organisations will host virtual stalls where you can learn about wellbeing and welfare support services, unique programs and life in Sydney, as well as connecting with other students from around the world.

You will also experience a Welcome to Country, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performances and a virtual reality tour of Warrane, Sydney Cove.

In 2021, the welcome program has been expanded to include a range of incredible online programs. From 17 March, you can join a virtual Resilience and Mindfulness workshop, which introduces you to meditation techniques, an online tour of Sydney’s hidden gems, the Australian Sports Program, which provides an opportunity for you to learn about Australian culture through sport, and an Indigenous Cultural Awareness Workshop, to teach you about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and history.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore will host the online event on Tuesday 16 March.
