The Northern Territory Government has announced a $2 million initiative in 2025 aimed at enhancing support for international students. This funding will bolster education marketing programs, skilled migration efforts, and workforce attraction and retention strategies, all designed to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for international students in the Territory.
Owner of Dukes Cafe, Prabin Maharjan, moved to the NT seven years ago, and said the NT had allowed him to put his entrepreneurial spirit to good use.
Maharjan also runs Brew Dreams, a program that offers international students barista training.
“So far we are able to help the community, help the young kids, get them a job, guide them through their tough times,” he said.
This follows the announcement of the Northern Territory Government and Charles Darwin University (CDU) developing new student accommodation in Darwin’s Central Business District. The planned facility at 56 Woods Street is expected to house approximately 350 students, addressing the current shortage of student housing and providing affordable living options close to the university campus.
