Sydney is a great city for a lot of things. For starters, there’s a dynamic restaurant, bar and nightclub scene. New, exciting venues are popping up almost every day, while the local favourites keep drawing in their loyal fans.
Darling Harbour
One of the most internationally famous areas has to be Darling Harbour. There are many restaurants and bars right along the waterfront. It might not be the cheapest of areas to grab a bite to eat, but it’s certainly very pretty – and lively. There’s also the world-famous multi-story nightclub Home, which attracts students and other people who love a good, proper party from all over Australia.
Opera House & Harbour Bridge
And The Rocks would have to come in joint second in terms of iconic spots. The Sydney Opera House punctuates the scenery, but even if you’re not seeing a show, you can still enjoy the view and atmosphere of the Opera House from the adjacent Opera Bar – a popular hangout spot for after-work and afternoon drinks. It wouldn’t be a round-up of Sydney without a mention of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. And whilst the average person just uses it to get from A to B or admires it from afar, some people choose to climb up and over it. Although The Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb is technically an adrenaline-packed activity, it’s actually not all that physically exerting. Anyone over the age of 10 and in good health can give it a go. It’s one pretty awesome way to take in Sydney’s impressive views, that’s for sure.
Newtown
Newtown is the place to go for quirky, arty venues. It attracts a wide range of alternative-types from bohemian peeps to punk rockers. There are a number of vegetarian and vegan restaurants with very reasonably priced food.
Bondi Beach
One of the most popular attractions that you’ll see on a Sydney postcard, along with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, is Bondi Beach. This is surfer central. Everyone wears thongs, has long beachy hair and walks around with a surf board – well not everybody, but you get the gist. If you’re after fish and chips or a good burger on the beach, this is the place to go. The beach may be a little busy at times, but hey, it’s kind of a big deal so it goes with the territory.
