The Fair Work Ombudsman is a government agency that provides free and confidential advice about your rights at work. It can also provide assistance if you have a dispute about your entitlements.
Your rights at work
In Australia, you have the right to a minimum wage, to be paid for all hours you work, and to 10 basic entitlements provided under the National Employment Standards.
The National Employment Standards (NES) include:
- Maximum weekly hours
- Annual leave
- Personal/carers leave and compassionate leave
- Public holidays
- Notice of termination and redundancy pay
- Fair Work Information Statement
