Australia Removes COVID-19 Testing Requirement for International Arrivals

From 18 April 2022, travellers entering or leaving Australia will no longer require a negative pre-departure test.

However, all incoming travellers will need to comply with the testing and quarantine requirements of the state or territory of their arrival, and any other state or territory to which they plan to travel.

International travellers who arrive in Australia without meeting vaccination requirements (which, at this time, is proof of receiving two doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved vaccine) and without an exemption, may be considered for visa cancellation, detention and removal. For more information see Travel restrictions and exemptions.

All passengers arriving by air into Australia should also complete a Digital Passenger Declaration (DPD). You can start a DPD seven days before your flight, but you must submit it before you depart for Australia. Passengers who do not complete a DPD before departing may face unnecessary delays on arrival in Australia.

Your DPD will require:

  • Your contact details, including a contact phone number in Australia.
  • You to make a legally binding declaration in relation to your vaccination status.
  • You to make a declaration about your travel history in the last 14 days.
  • You to make a declaration that you are aware of the quarantine and testing requirements that apply when coming to Australia and in the state or territory you are landing and the penalties for non-compliance.

Before you complete your DPD, it can be a good idea to check all other travel requirements for Australia. For a list of all the documents you’ll need before you travel, see the information for vaccinated travellers and unvaccinated travellers. For example, unvaccinated travellers will require acceptable medical evidence if they cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
