Tasmania’s 2023-24 Skilled Migration Program Update

Tasmania’s Skilled Migration Program for 2023-24 is open to applicants. If you’re planning to apply this year, you need to be aware of the program allocations and some changes to the state’s skilled migration system. Fortunately, we’ve rounded up the most important details you need to know about Tasmania’s skilled migration updates.

Tasmania skilled migration: Allocations for 2023-24

On its website, Migration Tasmania has stated that the skilled visa allocations are as follows:

  • Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa: 600 places
  • Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visa: 600 places

No new nomination allocations have been supplied for the Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) (subclass 188) in the 2023-24 program for any jurisdiction.

In addition to the announcement of the allocations, Migration Tasmania admitted that these allocations were “significantly lower than anticipated” and the small number of spaces is likely due to the high volume of visa applications still on hand and nominations issued in 2022-23. It also stated that it was continuing to engage with the Australian Government on the matter.

Changes to the Tasmania skilled migration system

The Tasmanian Government has made several small changes to its skilled migration program for the 2023-24 year.

They include:

  • An updated Tasmanian Onshore Skilled Occupation List.
  • An increased nomination application cost; the new fee is A$330 (including GST). However, there is no charge to submit a Registration of Interest (ROI).
  • Extending eligibility for subclass 190 nomination to all occupations in the Tasmanian Skilled Employment pathway. Learn more here.
  • Changes to income thresholds based on updates to the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold, which you can learn more about here.
  • Minor changes to priority attributes.
