The lane is opposite Federation Square off Flinders Street, at the southern end of Melbourne’s city centre.

If you’re hoping to snap a picture or two of this breathtaking 19th-century building, there are free guided tours along with exhibitions for you to explore. Alternatively, you can check out the life-sized chessboard or the large green lawn at the front of the building, both of which typically attract crowds throughout the day.

The lane is now covered with colourful streets and gig posters, and houses some amazing restaurants such as Indian-origin Tonka and Chinese eatery Lee Ho Fook.
