Open Day is a bit like a festival, with food trucks, free coffee, live music, and amazing activations to check out. Get all the practical tips you need, such as information on Swinburne's industry experience guarantee, transfer options and entry requirements. With so much to do, you'll want to prepare accordingly.
Here are six ways to make the most of Open Day at Swinburne University of Technology.
1. Plan your day in advance
With over 300 activations, plus workshops, tours and talks from Swinburne academics, we recommend planning your day around your interests and goals using the Open Day planner.
If you’re wondering where to start, we suggest building your day around the International Students Information Session, hosted in Room EN204/205, Engineering Building, from 11:30am–12:00pm. Here, you'll learn tips for applying, popular study areas for international students, scholarships, and all about Work Integrated Learning. Come ready with your questions, as there will also be a live Q&A.
Can't make it to the session? Drop into the International Student Lounge at the LB Library to gain personalised advice, relax and soak up the atmosphere. Plus, you can receive an on-the-spot offer to study at Swinburne if eligible!
2. familiarise yourself with the campus
Open Day offers you the chance to explore Swinburne's main campus in the buzzing suburb of Hawthorn - just 10 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD.
Join a range of guided tours where you'll explore the library, StudentHQ, Factory of the Future, the Sky Lounge, and much more! Make sure to check out the new Latelab and student hub, providing a safe 24-hour space for students to study and collaborate.
If you're curious about student life beyond the classroom, make sure you visit the Student Association to discover a wide range of student clubs and societies.

3. Check out the facilities for your course
Swinburne is packed with cutting-edge facilities, so make sure to attend tours and hands-on workshops that match your interests and career goals.
For example, nursing students can explore the simulation lab, a realistic clinical environment, alongside digital anatomy labs where students practise skills before placement. Education students can immerse themselves in a virtual classroom with a class of five students, and those interested in STEM can explore CISCO Networking Lab and Smart Structures Laboratory - the only one of its type in Australia!
4. Get personalised guidance from the experts
Swinburne’s International Recruitment and Admissions staff will be available to answer questions specific to your circumstances.
You can also:
- Get one-on-one advice about your study options, scholarships, entry requirements, and credit recognition from prior study
- Head to a talk given by academics in your course of interest
- Chat to Work Integrated Learning advisers to learn more about industry connections at Swinburne - this will be helpful when you're considering your future goals
5. Consider real industry experience
Finding the right course for you is just one step. Use Open Day to better understand how Swinburne will set you up for your career once you graduate.
Throughout the day, you will learn about Work Integrated Learning - professional placements, industry-linked projects, paid internships, and hands-on work with real employers, built into your degree at Swinburne. You'll build your local professional network while you study and graduate with Australian industry experience on your resume.
Swinburne alumni and current students will also be sharing their real industry experience stories in course info sessions and info booths.
