*Update: New announcements regarding Tasmania’s Skilled Migration Program were announced on 19 September 2022. Learn more here.

There’s so much to love about living in Tasmania. If you’re considering moving there, look into the state’s Skilled Migration Program – it’s just opened to Green and Gold pass candidates!

On Monday 12 September 2022, the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program opened to Gold and Green pass candidates.

Candidates who meet the minimum requirements for one of the nomination pathways and have at least one gold or green priority attribute can now register their interest in nomination. For example, a gold attribute for both the 190 Tasmanian Skilled Employment Pathway and 491 Tasmanian Skilled Employment Pathway visas is having “skills assessment and related employment included in the Critical Roles list (for at least the past 3 months). You can find the green and gold priority attributes for the 190 and 491 visas on the Migration Tasmania website.

For the 2022-23 program year, Tasmania has received an interim skilled visa allocation of:

  • Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa: 2,000 places
  • Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visa: 1,350 places

During this interim opening stage, all candidates who qualify for a visa will need to seek an invitation from Migration Tasmania before they can apply for nomination. You can find a detailed step-by-step process available on the Migration Tasmania website in the “How to Apply – 2022-23 interim process” sections for each visa.

In response to feedback and questions received by Migration Tasmania, additional information has been made available regarding the Skilled Migration Program. For example:

  • Online study: Courses that are registered for on-campus delivery, but which moved to online delivery as a result of COVID-19 health directions will be accepted. However, online study completed after 31 July 2022 will not be recognised unless it was due to a state government health direction or the need to isolate as a result of a positive COVID-19 test or close contact notification.
  • Overseas-gained qualifications related to employment: Qualifications that were gained outside Australia will be recognised regarding relevance to current employment if the overseas institution is a nationally recognised institution in the relevant home country.
