One of the best parts of living in Brisbane is the spring weather (it’s called the sunshine state for a reason!). 

While your friendly southern neighbours in Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart are still wearing their warmest clothes, Brisbane comes alive with so many options for activities in the Springtime.

Brisbane Pride Festival

When: September 21, 10am – 5pm 

Where: Musgrave Park – 91 Cordelia St, South Brisbane

Brisbane Pride began in 1990 and today welcomes thousands of LGBTQIA+ activists, allies and organisations. On Saturday, September 21, colourful floats, performers, organisers and allies will march from Queens Garden Park in the CBD and finish at Musgrave Park in South Brisbane for a vibrant celebration of diversity and community.

There will be music, performances and events starting at 10am and finishing at 5pm. It’s also worth visiting the Brisbane Pride Website to find other events taking place throughout September to celebrate Pride Month. 

Listen Out Music Festival 

When: 5th October, 12:00pm–10:00pm

Where: Brisbane Showgrounds, 600 Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills, Brisbane

One of Brisbane’s biggest music festivals is back again and this year will be headlined by artists like 21 Savage, Skepta, Tyla and more. 

October weather in Brisbane is perfect for a full day of sun, music and friends spread out over multiple stages in the Brisbane showgrounds. 

With some of the region’s biggest festivals like Falls and Splendour no longer running, Listen Out is one of the only chances to see internationally renowned performers at a festival in or around Brisbane in 2024. 

Oktoberfest

The German Club located near Woolloongabba has been celebrating Oktoberfest in Brisbane for 50 years. Every weekend in October, you’ll have a great excuse to put on your best Lederhosen and enjoy German food and Beer. 

With all your favourite authentic German foods like Schnitzel, Wurst and Pork Knuckle, you can experience a taste of Bavaria in Brisbane with live music and entertainment and Australia’s largest range of German “Bier” on tap. 

Food markets 

When: Every Saturday morning – 6am to noon at New Farm | 6am to 1pm in West End. 

Where: New Farm Park – Lamington St in front of the Brisbane Powerhouse | Davies Park – Montague Road & Jane Street, West End, QLD

With winter officially over, fresh food and delicious coffee by the river is a perfect start to your Saturday. At the Powerhouse in New Farm and Davies Park in West End, you can enjoy produce from a variety of local suppliers, farmers and small businesses. 

At the West End Markets, you will find over 150 vendors selling everything from delicious snacks, fresh seafood, boutique fashion and handcrafted gifts. There is also live music until 2pm for a great atmosphere that’s enjoyed by locals and tourists every weekend. 

In New Farm, you can also check out the Farmers Markets, which have a focus on connecting farmers and primary producers to those living in and around the city. Here you can get all your fruit and veg for the week and some of the best coffee in the city with the beautiful backdrop of the Powerhouse and Brisbane River. 

Palace Cinemas International Film Festivals (Japanese and Italian) 

When: 16 September – 16 October | 7 – 22 October 

Where: Palace James Street, 39 James St Fortitude Valley | Palace Barracks, 61 Petrie Terrace.

Palace Cinemas, located in Fortitude Valley and Petrie Terrace are hosting an Italian Film Festival and Japanese Film Festival throughout September and October. 

With a variety of films, events, dinners and networking opportunities, it’s a great springtime cultural event for any film lover. 

Many of the films shown will be Australian Premiers from world-renowned Directors and with only a few screenings for each film, getting a ticket ahead of time is a great way to secure your spot. 

Yatala Drive-In Cinema 

When: Every night

Where: 100 Stapylton Jacobs Well Rd, Stapylton QLD 4207, Australia

Entry: $40 per car (up to 6 people) 

With warmer weather in the air, lying on the grass, in the back of your car or on your picnic blanket watching the big screen is a great way to spend a spring evening. 

Yatala drive-in theatre shows a variety of films every night along with your favourite movie snacks and drinks, across three grassy fields for you to pull up in your car, sit back and enjoy.
