Where is the Gold Coast?

The Gold Coast is a city on the east coast of Australia, located around one hour south of Brisbane. While it sits close to the New South Wales border, the Gold Coast is actually situated in Queensland.

The Gold Coast is the sixth-largest city in Australia by population – even bigger than several capital cities! It’s also considered a regional area for migration purposes, which means you may be able to add an extra year to your post-study work visa and choose from a wider selection of jobs.

Getting to the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast has its own international airport – Gold Coast Airport – located in the suburb of Bilinga near Coolangatta, which means you can travel here from several places around the world and Australia. Gold Coast Airport is about 30km from the Gold Coast CBD and 90km from Brisbane.

AirAsia X, Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas, Scoot and Virgin Australia are the major airlines servicing Gold Coast Airport. AirAsia X, Jetstar and Scoot all offer international flights from major Asian cities including Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo.

If you’re travelling from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, you’re best driving or catching a train – the journey is around one hour.

Why study on the Gold Coast?

The Gold Coast is world-famous for its incredible sandy beaches, theme parks, and laidback lifestyle. But there’s so much more to this regional city that makes it a great place to live and study. There are several fantastic universities and vocational education and training (VET) providers here, along with private colleges, English learning centres, and secondary schools.

The locals on the Gold Coast are very friendly, and the city is home to thousands of international students, so you’ll settle in pretty quickly. The vibe is relaxed and activities are largely centred around the beach; if you love swimming, want to give surfing a go, or even like the idea of getting involved with water sports, the Gold Coast might just be for you.
