Swinburne University of Technology is introducing a new September intake for a range of popular degrees. What does this mean for you?

Did you miss an earlier intake? Experiencing visa delays? Has life gotten in the way of your study plans? Now, you won’t have to delay your future.

Whether you're already in Australia or preparing to arrive from overseas, the September intake means you don't have to wait until 2027 to begin your studies. Instead, you could be settling into student life, making friends and building skills before the year is over.

Here's what you need to know about the new September intake at Swinburne.

So, how does the September intake work?

The September intake allows you to begin selected Swinburne degrees a few months earlier than the traditional start of the academic year. September intake is available to students commencing the first semester of their degree. Advanced standing is not available for September intake courses.

You'll enrol in the same course, study the same units and receive the same support as other students, just on a slightly different timeline.

September intake courses begin on 28 September 2026. Application deadlines:

  • For offshore students: Friday 14 August 2026
  • For onshore students: Friday 18 September 2026

Available courses include:

Business

  • Bachelor of Business

Education

  • Master of Teaching (Secondary)
  • Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching
  • Master of Educational Leadership

Engineering

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
  • Master of Construction and Infrastructure Management

Information Technology

  • Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology
  • Bachelor of Computer Science
  • Bachelor of Data Science
  • Bachelor of Cyber Security
  • Master of Information Technology (Professional Computing)

Note: No advanced standing accepted. Students must be commencing their first semester of the degree.

More intake, more control

One of the biggest advantages of the September intake is simple: you get a head start.

For offshore students, it offers another opportunity to start your Australian study journey in 2026 - you don't need to put your goals on standby until next year.

For onshore students, it can be a great opportunity to begin your next qualification without spending months waiting for the next intake.

Or, consider it this way: it allows you to stay focused and maintain momentum in your studies. If you've just finished school, English language studies or a previous qualification, you may feel ready to keep going. Long gaps between study periods can make it harder to stay motivated, so starting in September helps you continue while your habits and confidence are still fresh.

Whatever your situation, the September intake gives you another pathway to start when it suits you. It's all about giving you more flexibility and more control over your university journey.

Why wait?

Your future doesn’t have to be on hold.

Swinburne's new September intake in 2026 is designed for students who are ready to take the next step now.

Remember that the application deadline for offshore students is Friday 14 August 2026. For onshore students, the deadline is Friday 18 September 2026.
