How International Students Can Save on University Fees

For international students, finances are typically top of mind, particularly because tuition fees to study overseas in Australia run quite high. According to a recent article from the Australian Financial Review, however, universities are offering substantial funding to ease this financial burden and increase enrollments among international students.

Let’s take a look at which universities are offering these scholarships and grants, and how you can get your hands on them.

Which universities are offering scholarships for international students in Australia?

Most universities in Australia offer scholarships to international students; however, the number of scholarships and the level of funding varies between institutions. For more information, head to the website of your current or prospective university or consult our list of the top scholarships for international students.

As an example, The University of Sydney offers a range of region and country-specific scholarships (namely the Sydney International Student Award, with specific ones for nations like India, Indonesia and Vietnam). These scholarships provide a 20 per cent discount on course fees. To apply for this funding, students simply need to answer the following three questions with 200-word responses:

  1. Tell us about yourself.
  2. What inspired you to apply to the University of Sydney?
  3. What do you want to achieve with your studies at the University or how will it help you achieve your goals?

If you’re interested in studying in Melbourne, both Monash University and the University of Melbourne offer excellent funding, as well. Monash University’s International Study Grants 2022 offers $5,000 or $10,000 to successful applicants, depending on the outcome of the assessment. Meanwhile, the University of Melbourne offers both the Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarship and the Melbourne International Graduate Scholarship. The undergraduate scholarship provides a fee remission of up to $10,000, while the graduate scholarship offers a one-time fee remission of $5,000 or $10,000 or a percentage reduction of fees throughout your course.
