Hi! I'm interested in studying overseas and I was wondering what it would be like since I have family there. Do they require their students to house with them or could they make exceptions since my family lives in the vicinity of the school?

Dear officer,

I am an international student who is in her final semester of a two-year master's program (#32 units) at the University of Queensland (UQ). I am now in Australia. UQ allows me to reduce study workload and study part-time while studying online as an international student because of Covid19 pandemic. Please see -> https://support.my.uq.edu.au/app/answers/detail/a_id/1924/related/1

By doing so, I need to extend another semester to complete the rest of the two courses. UQ agreed to issue me a new CoE by which I can apply for a new student visa before the expiration day of my current student visa. In that case, I will be graduating in July 2021 instead of the end of this year.

But I have two questions and want to hear your advice/suggestions.

1. Whether studying part-time will impact my working limit under a student visa (subclass 500)? Can I still work up to 40hrs per fortnight in this case?
2. Whether studying part-time as an international student will impact my eligibility to obtain a temporary graduate visa (subclass 485) after graduation in July 2021?

Could you please reply to me as soon as you can? I am looking forward to it. Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Shiyuan Yin

Good morning
My name is Enrico Gnoni and at the moment I am living in Italy. I started my Post Graduate diploma at Kaplan Business School Australia in November 2018 and I finished it after one study year so October 2019. After this first study-experience I had to came back to Italy in order to work and make more money to finalise my MBA course with digital management specialisation (in short I should add 4 subjects to get MBA).
I planned to come back to Australia to start my Kaplan specialisation as early as July 2020 but due to covid-19 emergency l could't come back.
After that, I decided to postpone my specialisation course from July 20 to Nov 20 but the situation is still unsure about travelling overseas.
Actually, I am not going to apply online class as Kaplan suggested me because l think the experience is completely different by watching a webcam without live speaking, group assessment, in class presentations etc. So I am going to waiting for the Australian open borders to international students.
My question is
can I apply a Post Graduate Visa after my MBA even if I left Australia for more than one year due to (November 20) covid emergency? I think I could start my specialisation on T1 2021 (March 21) if covid-situation gets better. May you give me more information and as more as details possible related to my Post graduate visa 485?
Thank you in advance

Hi I am Thomas from the Netherlands, one of many many international Students visa holders in Australia. During these hard times it's not easy to keep my head above water. I lost around 85% of my work and there is no financial support from the government. Colleges are closed and classes are online. school is asking the full amount of tution fee while we are struggling to get food on the table, how is that possible. I can't find anything about our rights, Are there rights for international students anyway?
What happened with "we are all in this together"? Yes maybe at the end of the financial year when we contribute our taxes like everyone else. I think the main question from all temporary visa holders is can we expect financial support from the government or do we really get tucked away?

Shajan PunNepalEmail hidden; Javascript is required.

Hi there,
My name is Shajan, 24, and I am from Nepal. I have been in Australia for over 5 years. I arrived in Australia as a student in the year 2015. I was on a post a graduate visa (485) for 2 years which expired in February this year. During these 2 years, I pursued a Professional Year program, English Language test and, NAATI (did not pass this) to accumulate points for my skill assessment and eventually lodged an EOI (Sept 2019) for permanent residency.
I stand at 80pts which I believe, is fairly on the low-end side in the skill assessment point scale. I am now on a one-year student visa since March this year and still awaiting a response on my EOI. I will turn 25 in October and perhaps get my NAATI done by the end of the year, hoping to raise my points and receive a response asap.
Having said all that, I am not sure of the best options that exist considering the pandemic and visa changes. I am trying to find sustainable options that will help me, extend my stay to wait for EOI or receive my EOI within 6 months from now. Any help in regards to this is appreciated.

Hi,

I’m Olivia currently holding international student visa undertaking my master degree in University of Melbourne. In regards of the current situation in VIC and the second online learning program due to stage 4 restriction. Some of the students like myself wondering when the border will be open? Not to be exact, but is it early on 2021 or mid? Or even late next year?

Since a lot of the students are going back but they aren’t sure when they can come back to Australia.

Would be much appreciated if you can give me some clarity on this. Since it’ll be very impactful on how will I plan for my last semester in UniMelb.

Thank you!
